Managing Director, Enterprise Data Governance State Street

Cara O’Brien is Managing Director and Head of State Street’s Master Data Management program and platform. In this role she is responsible for execution of the overall strategy, development and implementation of program and platform enhancements. In addition, Cara leads the global operations team supporting the program and adoption efforts across the enterprise focused on data management and governance principles. The program includes standardizing and maintaining a single source of the truth for legal entity reference data which includes but are not limited to clients, customers, products, services, State Street legal entities, account linkages, and multiple hierarchies. Recognized as a strategic and transformative leader, she has led various enterprise–wide initiatives and large global operations teams for core support and revenue generating businesses. Focused on risk management, operating model evolution, product management, cost modeling and financial analysis she was responsible for positive operational outcomes and cost savings, while building high performing teams leading by example. Ms. O’Brien has more than 25 years of financial industry experience. She joined State Street in 1993 and has served in various capacities and management roles across various business lines focused on operational efficiency, process improvement and technical implementations. During her career, Cara has also been instrumental in community support initiatives including serving on the North America Global Giving Campaign Steering Committee, a three-year initiative supporting local agencies raising over $9M. She also led a local department-wide employee outreach group that raised over $8k annually and participated in 1,000 + hours of community service. Cara earned a B.S. in Marketing & Finance from Providence College in 1993.
